Jesus, at Mt Olives spoke the beatitudes
He had just come from being tempted in the wilderness
He walked into the city of Galilee
He preached extensively in the city
People brought all those who were sick
And He healed all their diseases
And a great multitude followed Him
Seeing the crowd, Jesus went into seclusion
At Mt Olives, and His disciples came to Him
He told them who the “blessed/happy/joyful” people are”

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭3 NKJV)
They are humble people, agreeable
Proud people cannot live with others, cannot serve
God’s word cannot have a place in them
They cannot give in or let go what they hold

We must release what we have to uphold God’s
“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit,
But in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests,
But also for the interests of others.” (‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭3-4‬ NKJV)
Pride is followed by shame

Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭4‬ NKJV)
Mourning over the word of God
Meditate always on the word of God
Holy Spirit is our comforter
He reminds us the Word of God
Let us not only mourn for worldly things
When we mourn over the word of God
God sends us help, our inner being is blessed with the comforter

“Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭5‬ NKJV)
Let’s avoid violence
The work ahead in our worldly life is challenging
With a lot of trials and temptations
The meek will project the right character
To glorify God, He says
“I will leave in your midst
A meek and humble people,
And they shall trust in the name of the LORD.” (‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭11-12‬ NKJV)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬ NKJV)
Humanity need to thirst and hunger for right things
Righteous character is not negotiable
It must rule all our undertakings
When righteousness calls, God listens
Filling us with His gladness
In God’s house, there is everything
Righteous people never suffer want

Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭7‬ NKJV)
In our midst are people with diverse needs
Do not ignore their plight, consider them
Extend your favor to them as a habit
If we are merciful to them
God will treat us favorably, in our hour of need

Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ NKJV)
If our neighbors are blessed
Think of them positively
Avoid thinking evil in your heart
Don’t spend time talking ill of others
Families not to think ill of their spouses
It’s God who blesses, and sustains

Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God. (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭9‬ NKJV)
Be careful not to add fuel to any conflict
Let’s not be fans of conflict
Even when not at peace at our places of work, at home
Let’s always work for peace

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven
Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you,
And say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake,
Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven,
For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭10-12‬ NKJV)

We shall encounter trials and temptations on earth
Our predecessors experienced the same
For righteousness sake
They rejoiced and overcame
They now eagerly await us in paradise
To receive God’s great reward
Together with us in heaven
