Steadfast faith

Hebrews 10 gives extended details on faith
Faith is the assurance of things hoped for
Daniel 3:16-18 presents three gentlemen
Mishek, Shedrack and Abednego
They had a lot of faith and stood firm
They were not ready to change
The three believed and dedicated themselves in God,
When things were good or bad, their faith was steadfast
The three men refused to be served with food from the King
They opted for vegetarian food and water

In our Christian life, we have faith in God in diverse areas
God provides food, supplies all our needs, a healer
Sometimes, we ask God for things, and if He delays
Some of us think God did not hear
We assume God has abandoned us
We turn away from God, assuming that God
Does not attend His people when in need

Is there a time when we need God and when we don’t?
Do we need God only when we are in trouble?
Jesus did not hide the disciples
That they’d face challenges on earth (John 17:15)
Christians will face rejection, tribulations, temptations and lack

Nebuchadnezzar made a decree that everyone must worship the statue (Daniel 3:16)
Failure to which opposers would be thrown to the fiery furnace
They told the King “If the God we serve exists, then He can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He can rescue us from the power of you, the king. But even if He does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.” (‭Daniel‬ ‭3‬:‭17-18‬ HCSB)

Steadfast faith gives someone courage to speak out
God gives words to speak
That courage could be nurtured through reading the word of God
Jesus after coming from wilderness was tempted by the devil
He responded to every request since he had courage from reading the word of God
He overcame all the temptations of the devil

Joseph was courageous in Egypt
When tempted by wife of Potiphar
He explained he was entrusted with everything
Within the household, except the wife (Genesis 39:8)
He explained that he was not ready to sin against God
Through engaging in a sexual affair with Potiphar’s wife

When the musical instruments were sounded
All people, including many Jews, worshipped the statue
Only the three men were left standing, defied the King’s decree (Daniel 3:7)
As Christians we need to be aware that there are times
When everything looks acceptable, defiance looks trivial
“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God” (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ HCSB)

The world’s scholars and philosophers make some things look normal
They present arguments that trivialize the truth,
They make wrong things look true
They have contributed to killing of Christian conscience
The three men failed to follow their fellow Jews
They could have said that “God will understand”
They would have given excuses, such as “we’ll defy only once, then we can repent”

In this world, well face many hardships
We have to stand firm, regardless of the challenge
May God help us not to imitate others
But to stand firm on our faith

The three gentlemen’s faith was planted in the power of God (Daniel 3:17)
They told the King that the God they serve would save them
They considered their God as a source of all power
Such people fight any challenges with conviction that God hears
“Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us — to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭3‬:‭20-21‬ HCSB)
God has power to perform miracles beyond what you can imagine
Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭28‬ HCSB)
Our God is all powerful, can do all things and can save us from all tribulations

Steadfast faith is sacrificial all times
It’s not changed by circumstances
Many people confess how they believe in God, how they are ready to live for Him
But when tribulations come, some people turn back
Peter the disciple found himself in a similar situation
Circumstances were tough and Peter disowned Jesus
Those who trust God, they will be given courage
Faith makes one to grow
God moves the faithful from one glory to another

When David faced Goriath, he proclaimed his faith in God
He told Goriath that he was coming to him by the word of God
The three men did not fear being put in the burning furnace
They feared judgement that would have come later for not showing their faithfulness to God
Many christians have faced painful tribulations
The prophets, disciples, all died a painful death
Today, many Christians are being persecuted all over the world
We are seeing through media some being slaughtered with a knife
Many Christians are being given two choices! to abandon Christ or be killed
Many have chosen not to forsake Christ, and rather be killed
They are careful not to face the judgement by God
If you are given such a choice today, what would you choose?
Do you have the courage to face God, if your end comes?
